Summary

This role involves leading a classroom for visually impaired students at a specialized school, where you'll teach using adapted methods like braille, track student progress with data, and create a safe, engaging learning space.

Key Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Completion of a CAEP approved training program or eligibility for SC certification via alternative routes
Valid South Carolina certification (or eligibility) in Special Education: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Ability to implement appropriate braille skills or acquire them
Experience implementing and refining curriculum for students with visual impairments
Proficiency in gathering, analyzing, and using data to guide instruction and provide feedback
Skills in using technology to enhance learning and manage the classroom

Full Job Description

Implement and refine district approved curriculum to meet the evolving educational needs of students. Systematically gather, analyze, and use data to measure student progress, guide instruction, and provide timely feedback. Uses technology effectively to enhance student learning and to manage the classroom. Maintain a safe student-centered learning environment that is engaging and respectful. Manage classroom with clear, consistent expectations for student behavior with an aim to create a calm, safe, orderly learning community. Develop and implement IEPs consistent with compliance requirements. Complete additional special educational actions and attend meetings as applicable as part of student’s educational team.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Completion of a CAEP approved training program or eligible for SC certification through the State Department of Education’s approved alternative certification routes. Valid SC certification (or is eligible to obtain a SC certification) in the subject area(s) employed to teach Special Education: TVI. Ability to implement appropriate braille skills and/or to acquire requisite skills.
