Full Job Description

This position is for Supply Chain Management Service at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center.

Primary purpose of position is to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/09/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service.

An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.

In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility..

Major Duties:

Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Perform daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders.

Analyze and resolve difficult issues and problems and to plan effectively and render equitable and reliable decisions Maintains stock and primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.

Oversees the performance of daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders.

Ensures the monitoring of expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.

Maintains close contact with service lines to ensure that critical or urgent requests are processed timely and support both expected and unexpected requirements.

Ensures items are distributed according to established or ad hoc requirements using the generic inventory package (GIP).

Oversees the computerized inventory management systems and recalls to ensure outdated or otherwise compromised supplies and material are removed from usage area.

Checking inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts; assisting customers complete work orders for needed equipment.

Ensure critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled.

Deliver supplies in timely and accurate manner, ensuring that supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition.

Perform daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders.

Receive, distributing, issuing, organizing, labeling, storing, and rotating processed instruments and supplies.

Distribute and balance workload among three or more employees; monitor work progress and make day-to-day adjustments based on priorities; instruct employees on tasks and techniques.

Provide on-the-job training to new staff; maintain current knowledge of procedures and answering employee questions; review completed work for compliance with instructions and deadlines.

Monitor working conditions; resolve minor complaints; reporting performance, progress, and training needs to the supervisor. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 4:00p.
