Base salary range: $74,441 - $96,770
Typical requirements: 1 year specialized experience at GS-11. Advanced degree + significant experience.
Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This role involves leading a team of paralegals in a U.S.
Attorney's Office unit focused on financial litigation, such as debt collection cases, by assigning tasks, ensuring quality work, and providing hands-on legal support like research and document preparation.
You'll mentor junior staff, analyze case files, interview witnesses, and help build evidence for trials.

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11.
Specialized experience is defined as experience performing a variety of analytical paralegal or legal work which demonstrates a practical knowledge of law, the litigation and judicial process, and applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures as it relates to Financial Investigations, such as debt collections.
Specialized Experience involves performing the following types of duties: mentoring and training others; analyzing and evaluating legal decisions and case files to identify relevant issues and potential evidence; conducting legal research concerning precedents and past court decisions; composing legal briefs, summaries of analyses and decisions, and pre-trial documents; interviewing witnesses and various individuals who can provide insight into cases under review; and preparing evidence and documents to support recommendations.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.

As a Lead Paralegal Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Financial Litigation Unit, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a variety of legal support services to the United States Attorney's Office, District of Colorado.
Typical work assignments will include: Distributing work, monitoring status of work and ensuring high quality work product. Instructing employees on current rules, methods, procedures, and policies.
Performing substantive legal research suing a variety of research tools. Prepares draft legal and administrative pleadings and various other correspondence and legal documents.
Conducting interviews of debtors, employers, and agency officials. Processing debt collection claims. Making decisions for debt compromise, write-off, and referral of claims.
Preparing and maintaining a variety of trial-related documents. Prepare exhibits for trial which typically involve a wide range of visual materials.
Provide litigation case management and organize cases for court presentation. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress
