Job Description

Summary

This role involves leading a team of technicians who handle military pay calculations, debt validation, and entitlements for active duty, reserve, and separated service members in the Department of Defense.

It requires supervising daily tasks, providing on-the-job training, and making adjustments to ensure smooth operations.

A good fit would be someone with prior experience in financial processing or team leadership, especially in government or military settings, who enjoys organizing workflows and resolving basic employee issues.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 (for GS-07) or GS-07 (for GS-08) in federal service, involving military pay validation, debt initiation, or entitlements processing

This job announcement uses the Subject Matter Expert Panel Assessment to evaluate applicants.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06 if applying at the GS-07 level or GS-07 if applying at the GS-08 level) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

GS-07 Specialized Experience is defined as: performing duties such as supervising the functions associated with the validation and initiation of debt for active duty and Reserve/Guard members and members separated from service.

GS-08 Specialized Experience is defined as: performing duties such as planning, directing, and/or coordinating military pay organization activities including, but not limited to processing entitlements for a full range of Military Pay accounts for all services and or other Defense Agency customers for active duty and Reserve/Guard members and members separated from service.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: GS-07: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

To be considered for the GS-07, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher grade in Federal Service.

GS-08: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

To be considered for the GS-08, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-07 or higher grade in Federal Service.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • The duties reflected are at full performance level (GS-08). For selections below full performance level, the duties will be developmental in nature
  • Serves as Work Leader by identifying, distributing, and balancing workload and tasks to team members.
  • Make day to day adjustments to accomplish, problems, and progress in mastering tasks and work processes.
  • Provides individual and team training on specific tasks and job techniques, as well as on-the-job training, in alignment with established procedures and practices.
