Job Description

Summary

This role involves leading a small team of entry-level staff who handle military pay processing, such as entering data, fixing errors, and managing transactions for soldiers.

You'll distribute tasks, train new hires, monitor progress, and ensure everything meets deadlines and standards.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 for GS-05 level, involving monitoring work, inputting data into systems, and correcting transactions under specific instructions
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 for GS-06 level, including examining documents for accuracy in leave and earnings statements using standardized procedures
  • For current federal employees: 52 weeks time-in-grade at GS-04 or higher for GS-05, or GS-05 or higher for GS-06, verifiable via SF-50
  • Ability to provide instructions, distribute and balance workload for 3+ employees processing military pay transactions

To be hired at the GS-05 entry grade level, applicants must minimally have: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-04) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as receiving specific instructions on monitoring and directing work activities using standardized procedures that may include inputting information into automated systems, and/or correcting invalid transactions.

Specialized experience is defined as monitoring and directing work activities which involve the examination of documents to determine the accuracy of retrieval of leave and earning statements being requested from soldiers and using standardized procedures that may include inputting information into automated systems, and/or correcting invalid transactions.

GS-05 Time-in-Grade: Current federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-04 or higher grade in Federal Service.

GS-06 Time-in-Grade: Current federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-05 or higher grade in Federal Service.

** The effective date of your SF-50 must reflect that you will meet the 52-week time in grade requirement within 30 days of the announcement closing.

** You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • The major duties described below reflect the full performance level of this position:
  • Responsible for providing instructions, distributing and balancing the workload of three or more employees (base level GS-05) who perform such work as processing a wide variety of military pay transactions.
  • Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work and maintains records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepares production reports as requested.
  • Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
  • Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
  • Checks on work in progress or spot checks work not requiring review (e.g., filing or direct services) and reviews completed work to see that supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met.
