The Lead Environmental Services Technician - Housekeeping Aid is located in the Environmental Management Services service line of the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS).
This position assists the Housekeeping Supervisor in daily operations, trains staff on cleaning procedures, conducts inspections, ensures compliance with standards, and performs a full range of housekeeping duties using power equipment.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Major Duties:
Duties of the position include but are not limited to: Assist the Housekeeping Supervisor in planning and coordinating daily operations for optimal efficiency.
Train staff on Standard Operating Procedures and ensure competency compliance across the team.
Conduct quality assurance inspections and develop corrective action plans to maintain infection control standards.
Demonstrate advanced cleaning techniques and proper use of specialized power equipment (e.g., auto scrubbers, carpet machines).
Organize and prioritize workflow to respond effectively to urgent or complex situations. Monitor work progress, enforce deadlines, and ensure adherence to established methods and procedures.
Provide technical guidance and resolve operational issues during the workday. Maintain current knowledge of policies, safety standards, and infection control practices.
Identify training needs and recommend additional on-the-job instruction for staff development. Report operational status, delays, and performance issues to the supervisor for strategic planning.
Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations throughout assigned areas. Lead by example by performing specialized housekeeping tasks requiring advanced skill and judgment.
Work Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours a week, days off are determined by the needs of the service.

The incumbent regularly lifts items weighing from 0 to 50 pounds.
Additionally, the position requires climbing ladders to clean overhead equipment and operating heavy-duty commercial cleaning equipment, which demands eye, hand, and body coordination.
Working Conditions: The incumbent typically works in a controlled environment with regulated heat, lighting, and ventilation.
However, exposure to organic materials such as blood, infectious organisms, and unpleasant odors is common. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and/or safety gear must be worn as required.
