Summary

This job involves leading a team of technicians in checking and analyzing the precise dimensions of aircraft parts to ensure they meet safety and quality standards for the Air Force.

It requires hands-on inspection work, problem-solving to improve processes, and reporting findings to supervisors.

Key Requirements

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Lead Mechanical Engineering Technician in the dimensional verification and analysis.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Generalized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Generalized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): Examples of qualifying generalized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents.

Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.

Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-03, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in the Federal Service.

Specialized experience must include : Assessing work methods, assignments, and policies to determine problem-solving techniques & strategies in accordance with organizational plans.

Utilizes testing and research to determine adjustments to accomplish workload in accordance with establishes priorities.

Independently evaluates aircraft components and conducts part inspections to determine integrity and ensure compliance with specified parameters.

Provide reports on findings, progress, work accomplishments & problems to supervisory staff.

Initiates team collaborative work to analyze work processes and develop alternatives to resolve or prevent process failures.

Leads implementation of new approaches to enhance production and coordinates efforts with the team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.

Ability to lead, plan, organize and direct team members to achieve specific tasks, produce work products and services and meet program and production goals.

Knowledge and application of leadership and team building skills and techniques. 2.

Knowledge and substantial & extensive understanding of highly complex aerospace metrology engineering concepts, principles and practices. Ability to accomplish rigorous mathematical computations.

Extensive knowledge in the science of metrology with respect to dimensional verification and inspection, with the ability to interpret blueprint drawings and apply the principles of Geometric & Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in order to correctly evaluate various engine, aircraft and commodity components to a very high degree of accuracy.

Demonstrated ability to research, understand and implement drawing specifications, equipment operational manuals and other required technical data. 4.

Working and theoretical knowledge of metrology processes and analyses required for process improvements.

Substantial knowledge of dimensional verification and inspection methodology, and component specifications, as well as the operational use of component and maintenance malpractice during depot repair and overhaul.

5. Ability to demonstrate broad-based test and evaluation experience.

Experience in a broad range of dimensional verification technology applicable to engine, as well as, aircraft, missile, and accessory design, first-article evaluation, and repair and overhaul processes.

Practical experience in related dimensional inspection technical fields including, but not limited to, aerospace, automotive, tooling and fixtures, manufacturing, heat treatment, mechanical systems, chemical, industrial/quality, electrical/electronics, metallurgical, and structural.

6. Skill in proficiently maintaining and operating complex metrology lab inspection, test and evaluation equipment.

Ability to proactively identify and mitigate equipment failures, suggests improvements, find novel approaches and specify new resources. 7.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Proficiently in English.

Demonstrated ability to assure that the work of an assigned team is carried out by performing a range of coordinating and supportive duties and responsibilities.

Skillful in utilizing a variety of coordinating, coaching, facilitating, consensus-building and planning techniques.

Experienced in work methods and knowledge, skills and abilities that act as alternatives to traditional supervision, enabling the team as a whole to deliver improved quality, qu PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

Serves as Team Lead Prepares reports and maintain record of work accomplishment and administrative information, as required, and coordinates the preparation, presentation, and communication of work- related information to the supervisor.

Independently plans and performs in-depth precision dimensional verification evaluations of aircraft, engine, missile, industrial components that supports the cause of failures and/or to ensure compliance with specified technical data Practices Air Fore Quality philosophy to ensure continuous process improvement and enhance mission performance Interfaces with weapon system engineers, technician, item managers, equipment specialists and other external engineering and scientific personnel to coordinate activities and communication between Production engineering, production, quality and lab personnel relative to the status and findings of active and inactive projects and evaluations
