Full Job Description

This vacancy is for a GS-0525-8, Lead Accounting Technician located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Financial Service Center in CHESAPEAKE, Virginia.

To qualify at the GS-08 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Assisting in examination of extensive accounting data through knowledge of accounting techniques.

Providing non-supervisory feedback on team performance during established work plans. Using automated accounting systems to assist in identifying incorrect data.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

You will serve as a Lead Accounting Technician and be responsible for providing accounting support for the more complex accounts which may involve a large number of organizations and programs and/or which require analyses and accounting determinations within a complete accounting system.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Controlling subsidiary accounts for interrelated classes, resolving complex account discrepancies through analysis then corrective entries, preparing trial balance schedules to show account status.

Conducting comparative account analysis, prepares supporting schedules, adjusting then reconciling accounts, computes data, determines causes of variances.

Maintaining expenditure accounts, verifies transaction processing for control, analyzes reports to identify deficiencies, recommends corrective measures.

Planning workload distribution; balances assignments; monitors progress; provides on-the-job training.
