The Laundry Worker is located in the Environmental Management Services service line of the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS).
This position performs routine tasks in collecting, sorting, washing, drying, folding, and distributing linens and clothing.
Work requires following established procedures, meeting production schedules, and adhering to safety and infection control standards.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Major Duties:
Duties will include, but are not limited to the following: Collects soiled linens and clothing from designated areas and transports them to the laundry facility.
Sorts laundry by fabric type, color, and soil level to prevent damage and ensure proper cleaning.
Loads washers and selects appropriate cycles, temperatures, and chemical formulas based on item requirements.
Transfers washed items to dryers or finishing equipment and monitors drying times to prevent over-drying. Folds, counts, and stacks clean linens and clothing according to established standards.
Prepares clean laundry for delivery, ensuring proper packaging and labeling for designated areas.
Maintains cleanliness and order in the laundry work area, including routine cleaning of machines and removal of lint.
Follows infection control and safety procedures when handling contaminated or biohazardous items. Uses carts, conveyors, and other equipment safely to move laundry throughout the facility.
Reports equipment malfunctions or safety hazards promptly to the supervisor. Assists in inventory rotation and ensures first-in/first-out distribution of clean linens.
Adheres to production schedules and meets daily workload requirements while maintaining quality standards. Work Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday.
7:00 am - 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD12045A Physical Requirements: As there are physical demands associated with the duties of this position, the incumbent must be in good general health and capable of enduring much standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
Incumbent is subjected to constant/sustained, bending, stooping, stretching, and walking. Incumbent is consistently involved in lifting bags weighing 40 to 50 pounds occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Manually pushes linen carts weighing up to 500 pounds. Incumbent must use proper body mechanics when lifting heavy loads. Physically pushes linen carts.
Coordinates hand and eye movement during the transportation of any linen cart used with the facility parameters. Work requires good coordination and good physical condition.
Will be lifting stacks and bundles of linens constantly, weighing up to 30 pounds. Will be walking, stooping, and bending frequently. Assists with loading and unloading linen delivery trailer.
