This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.


As the Laundry Worker II, under general supervision, you will perform various duties, including the operation of industrial washing machines and dryers; collect, sort, process, and distribute laundry and linens in compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities for the Laundry Worker II:
  • Load and operate industrial washers and dryers, according to established procedures. Items processed include but not limited to: bath towels,
    floor mats, wash cloths, laundry bags, patients' pajamas, and other personal clothing.
  • Gather soiled laundry and biohazard waste from designated areas. Responsible for following infection control guidelines relative to
    contaminated linens, to include proper bagging and labelling. Deliver soiled items to service building in laundry van.
  • Sort laundry items; prepare and bag bed linens for laundry service. Inspect items for appropriate quality; remove/repair damaged items.
  • Fold and stack clean laundry items. Sort and count items for proper redistribution to patient lodges. Responsible for sanitary storage of
    laundry. Deliver linens, cleaning rags and all other items needed to patients' lodges and appropriate areas.
  • Follow all established policies and procedures. Maintain and demonstrate competence in training, such as MANDT/MAPS, SCEIS Modules,
    and Infection Control.
  • Maintain the clean linen room floors and dirty linen room floors in laundry department.

Requirements

  • Experience in laundry, supply, or sewing operations that is directly related to the area of employment.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) or three (3) flights of stairs frequently. Ability to tolerate noise level.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • One year of experience in commercial or institutional laundry service.

Additional Information

Post hire, employees must:
  • Have working knowledge of the operation of heavy-duty laundry machinery
  • Be familiar with various types of detergents, bleaches and their effect upon fabric.
