Full Job Description

The incumbent of the position is organizationally assigned to the Environmental Management Service at the Gulf Coast VA Health Care Center.

The incumbent exercises both technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers as the Laundry Supervisor.

The Laundry Supervisor will evaluate, assign, direct, and review work operations, resolving various work-related problems while gaining the support of subordinates to achieve the medical center's highest goals.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.

Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Major Duties:

Cross-trained in all techniques and procedures used within the TCPF in the event of staffing shortages or unforeseen workload and works under strict timeframes and deadlines due to patient workload.

Responsible for correct operations of the dryers, small washer, pneumatic lift system, garment finisher and timely delivery of finished textiles when required.

Serves in place of an Machine Operator, Laundry Worker, Sewing Machine Operator, Linen Clerks and Truck Driver when needed.

Safeguard of textile equipment, materials and supplies for his/her assigned area.

Has overall processing and distribution knowledge to select the correct linen to be dried to ensure linen flow on the production floor is continuous.

Display sound judgement in monitoring the work flow for textile processing tasks through communication with the linen clerk, laundry work leaders and other laundry supervisors, to determine and communicate linen needs to the machine operator in a timely manner.

Responsible for working in a safe manner, adhering to established safety policies and reporting any hazardous or potential hazardous conditions to management.

Responds to changing linen requirements, as necessary.

Understands Infection Control measures are to be maintained between soiled side operations and clean textiles, and uses proper aseptic techniques including proper hand hygiene.

Ensures all employees are knowledgeable of and comply with safety rules, required safety training, and that safety program requirements are met.

Ensured continuous and safe operations; incumbent will follow all infection control, OSHA requirements and Joint commission guidelines when staging washed carts, loading and unloading washer/ extractors, small washers, dryers, and garment finisher.

Familiar with various chemical agents used by the TCPF to ensure they are properly used to prevent damage to linens, uniforms and any other textiles processed.

Plan daily worker assignments for all employees and provide project schedules, resources, and detail work plans establish by higher level supervisor.

Prepares and maintains work schedules and assignments. Performs interviews with applicants, and recommends selection in the hiring process. Makes recommendations for solutions to staffing problems.

Give guidance on sequence of operation, use of equipment, and technical guidance prescribed by VA manuals. Attend meetings and or act in the absence of the laundry plant manager.

Generates requisitions for major repairs and recommends replacement when required. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 9:00AM - 5:30PM.

Tour of duty subject to change based upon facility needs.

Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker Supervisor/PD03757A Physical Requirements: Workers must stand or walk continuously on concrete floors.

While they do not usually have to keep pace with machines, they need a certain amount of quickness in hand and arm movements to meet production standards.

Most of the jobs require workers to frequently lift bundles weighing tip to 11 kilograms (25 pounds); however, in receiving and shipping, occasional lifting of bulk bundles weighing over 14 kilograms (30 pounds) is required.

Working Conditions: Laundries are extremely noisy and usually hot and humid. Workers are exposed to the possibility of bruises from carts or machinery.

If required to sort laundry from patients with contagious diseases, workers wear protective masks, gloves, and gowns.
