Full Job Description

The Laborer position is located in the Supply Chain Management department at the Central Western Massachusetts (CWM) Healthcare System in Leeds, MA.

This position is a Full-Time position at 40 hours per week. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.

Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Dexterity and Safety Interpret Instructions, Specifications (other than blueprint reading) Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Without more than normal supervision Work Practices Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Major Duties:

Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc. Opens and unpack cardboard packages by hand and removes contents.

Moves supplies and equipment and rearranges material as required. Participates in other routine duties to include maintaining the facility in a neat, clean, orderly and safe condition.

Operates hand tools, simple power tools, heavy power tools and material handling equipment. Uses hand truck, dollies, snow blowers, lawn mowers, pressure washers and other equipment.

Works with material handlers to move employees as needed. Moves furniture and boxes utilizing various dollies and other furniture moving equipment. Help with snow removal and lawn maintenance.

During snow removal incumbent will use gas powered snow blower, shovel, ice pick and other tools as necessary to ensure safe passage of patients and employees on sidewalks and entrances.

During lawn maintenance, incumbent will use gas powered lawn mowers and weed whackers to ensure overgrowth is not a problem.

Performs maintenance and repairs to snow blowers, lawn mowers, weed whackers, office furniture, including systems furniture and standalone items.

Incumbent routinely assembles new furniture and disassembles furniture as requested by the supervisor.

Performs minor preventive maintenance on EMS equipment, including but not limited to replacing belts, bolts, screws, etc. Also preventative maintenance on lawn mowers, weed whackers and snow blowers.

Installs paper towel, soap and toilet tissue dispensers and makes repairs as needed. Removes, cleans and replaces light lenses.

Assists in the recycling and waste operations, ensuring that laundry rooms are kept clean and free of waste and other debris.

Incumbent assists with the pickup and movement of recycling materials around the medical center. Serves as a helper to the stock room clerk for EMS.

Ensures that all materials are appropriately documented and issued as per the services policies or procedures. Assists with the movement of furniture, supplies and materials around the medical center.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday. Hours: 6:30am-3:00pm.

Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD00502A Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be physically able to do a considerable amount of walking, standing, climbing ladders, bending and crawling.

Incumbent must be able to work in congested areas in tight, cramped, or awkward positions. Incumbent may be required to carry and set up ladders.

Incumbent may be required to lift or move heavy equipment or furniture that may weigh more than 100 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to cleaning chemicals and be fit tested for proper PPE.

Incumbent must be able to lift up to 100lbs.
