Full Job Description

This position is located in Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Plant Protection and Quarantine, Field Operations, Information Analytic Services, Aircraft and Equipment Operations (AEO), Equipment Operations.

The AEO work unit is responsible for providing aircraft, equipment, and services to support research and development, aerial application programs, aerial surveying, and distribution of sterile insects and/or bio-control agents needed to support agricultural pest control programs.

To qualify, you must show you have had training and experience of sufficient scope and quality to provide you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

  • The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Assists journeymen Machinist to operate, and maintain as instructed, precision cutting and forming machines, boring machines, punching machines, hand shears, hand files, grinders, metal cutting saws, spot welders and other general shop equipment.
  • Assists journeymen Electrician with installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment of specialized equipment.
  • Assists journeymen Welder(s) with fabricating specialized equipment using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes and various electric arc processes.
  • Assists the Mechanical Engineering Technician to implement CADD generated information for integration into Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) logic for programming of power machine tools.
  • Uses simple hand tools and power tools to assist journeyman staff to assemble sterile insect release machines, insect rearing equipment and associated accessories.
  • Uses simple material handling equipment to move, lift, or prepare specialized equipment for assembly or disassembly.
  • Loads, unloads, and moves equipment, crates, boxes, and supplies by hand or with the use of a hand truck and/or dolly or other material-handling equipment.
  • Assembles or prepares equipment, parts, or materials for shipping or mailing. Prepares or assembles shipping crates, containers, boxes, and/or packages using simple hand or power tools and shipping supplies.
  • Assists in the work of others (technicians, helpers, other line personnel) who have been assigned to the incumbent in order to complete assigned projects.
