This job involves leading a small team of workers in collecting, sorting, and disposing of recyclable materials and waste in government office buildings, while also performing hands-on cleaning and maintenance tasks like sweeping floors and washing windows.

The position is organizationally located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Client Services Division, Labor and Custodial Branch.
The incumbent is a working leader and will provide work instructions to other employees and perform the same type of work as that being led.
Incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and any other license required for the type of vehicle being operated.

You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position: The ability to lead people in the performance of laborer/recycler work.
Your application must show that you have sufficient experience to perform the duties of the position as described in the vacancy announcement. Major Duties:
The tour of duty for this position is 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. Duties include but not limited to: Serve as working leader of three
or more employees in accomplishing laborer/recycling/custodial or special events work.
Pass on to other workers' instructions received from supervisor and start work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).
Check work in progress and when finished, check for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines.
Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, cause of delay and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).
Collect and sort recyclable material, including aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, newspaper and paper, from various locations within the buildings. Reline recycle containers with plastic bags.
Place recycled material in appropriate locations as determined by management.
Collect all wet waste material from various locations within buildings and reline all wet waste containers and dispose of all wet waste materials. Clean recycling containers as necessary.
Perform laborer work, including loading and unloading trucks and using various moving equipment and devices including fork lifts, hand and power lifts and pallet jacks and carts for construction debris.
Load recyclable materials into designated vehicles including recycle truck, trash removal truck, stake-bed truck, dump truck, pick-up truck and van truck.
Separate trash by category of recyclable materials. Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax and polish floors, using heavy industrial powered equipment. Wash walls using powered wall washing machine.
Adjust oil, change buffers, brushes, rollers and other attachments to these machines. Wash and replace venetian blinds, ceiling fixtures and room partitions using ladders.
Remove stains from a variety of surfaces such as rugs, drapes, walls, floors and fixtures by using chemicals and cleaning solutions. Clean, disinfect and deodorize lavatories, urinals and toilet bowls.
Clean elevators, escalators, rest rooms, stairwells hallways, office suites courtyards, patios and other assigned areas.
Wash and clean windows inside and outside of buildings using stepladders, extension ladders and safety belts. Remove and perform furniture or equipment relocation and set-up for special events.
Arrange chairs and tables in required configurations for special events and ceremonies.
Deliver materials such as water pitchers, glasses, computer paper, tables, chairs and personal property, as required by Members of Congress and their staff.
