Full Job Description

Performs manual work of limited complexity utilizing manual and/or mechanized/power tools and/or equipment; may assist in the performance of semi-skilled or skilled tasks.

Union: This position is included in the Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

A current, valid Class C Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator's License at the time of filing application or prior to appointment, which must be maintained throughout employment.

Additional Information

  • Participates in various projects or tasks requiring physical labor (e.g., installing & removing signs, installing & removing pavement markings, placing cones, traffic control, routine shop and tool maintenance, vehicle maintenance, etc.)
  • Loads and unloads materials, supplies, equipment, trash and other debris; may use hand pallet or forklift.
  • May be required to verify the materials, supplies, equipment, etc. received by checking shipping and/or packaging documents, and to inspect items for any shipping damage.
  • Salts sidewalks, steps and removes snow.
  • Assists Sign & Paint Maintenance Specialists with sign and marking installation.
  • Performs simple construction jobs (e.g., barricades, fences, etc).

  • Cleans buildings, offices, restrooms, and the surrounding grounds.

  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, equipment and pionjars, etc.

  • May operate fueling stations (e.g., refuels City vehicles, completes and maintains records of gasoline, oil and other fluids used).

  • May drive trucks of one ton or less in daily routine.

  • May be required to assemble equipment or goods received.

  • May work shifts, weekends and holidays.

  • Performs routine maintenance of equipment (e.g., compressors, pionjars, paint machines, drills, etc).

  • Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
