This job involves helping in a medical lab by drawing blood and urine from patients, preparing samples for testing, and supporting scientists with lab work like staining slides and maintaining equipment.
It's a hands-on role in a county health department, often at hospitals or clinics.
A good fit would be someone with phlebotomy experience who is detail-oriented, comfortable with patients, and enjoys working in a team to support healthcare services.

Collects blood and urine samples from patients and processes these specimens including entry/receipt of specimens in Laboratory Information System (LIS), centrifugation, and distribution/sending to reference laboratories Assists Clinical Laboratory Scientists in the performance of testing in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis and other areas as assigned.
Results are verified by a scientistAssists physician in the obtaining and staining of bone marrow specimensMay be assigned to assist the Pathologist in the conduct of autopsiesMay provide training and work direction to Laboratory Technician I Assists laboratory scientists to maintain testing equipment Prepares various reagents and specimens for testing and analysis by licensed and certified personnelMakes gram stains and streaks culture plates May prepares specimens for transportation from collection sites to main laboratory and receives specimens from collections sites at the main laboratory Monitors room and refrigerator temperaturesGreets patients, customers, members of the public and other County staff; answers phones and performs other duties as requiredProvides and promotes excellent customer service for all internal and external customersPerforms record keeping, labeling, filing and other related dutiesReceives and stores laboratory supplies and assists in maintaining inventoryAssists in the entry of reference laboratory and point of care results Assists in laboratory data collection Qualifications License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.
Certificate: Must possess and maintain a current, valid Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) Certificate issued by the State of California Department of Public Health Laboratory Field Services Branch.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time, or its equivalent, experience drawing blood.Other Requirements: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment.

The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer.
If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances.
Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County.
If you accept a conditional job offer, the Human Resources department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.
