This job involves working in a hospital lab to run tests on samples like blood and tissues to help doctors diagnose and treat illnesses.
You'll follow directions from lab leaders, handle routine lab work, and might train new staff.
It's a good fit for someone with a science background who's detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable in a medical setting, especially if you're starting out or have some experience.

Performs a variety of tests in any or all of the fields of medical technology;Completion of technical testing/reporting in serology, blood bank, microbiology, hematology, coagulation, chemistry, special chemistry and urinalysis;Performs venipuncture as required;Assists in maintaining the laboratory and equipment in a clean and orderly condition;Maintains basic records and operates the numerous pieces of electronic equipment and analyzers required for testing; Participates in quality assurance and proficiency testing activities; andPerforms other related duties as required.
Qualifications These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCEClinical Laboratory Scientist I Must possess and maintain a current, valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist license issued by the State of California Department of Health ServicesNo experience required Clinical Laboratory Scientist II Must possess and maintain a current, valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist license issued by the State of California Department of Health ServicesOne (1) year of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSMust be willing to occasionally work in other departments and shifts as neededMust be willing to work overtime and standby as neededDESIREDKnowledge of one or more sub-specialty such as: Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology, Urinalysis, and Blood BankExperience in an acute care hospital settingAbility to work as an integral part of the laboratory teamKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIESThorough knowledge of: the standardized tests performed in Hematology, Serology, Chemistry, Blood bank, Microbiology, Urinalysis.
Working ability to: perform all the above standardized tests; work cautiously and accurately; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; work with and understand operation of technical equipment.
