The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking a detail-oriented IT technician to support the development and maintenance of a centralized knowledge base that standardizes technical records, documentation, and operational procedures across the organization.

Working under direct supervision and in close partnership with supervisory and technical staff, this position will audit existing repositories, assist with consolidating and organizing disparate files, and help create clear, comprehensive documentation to address information gaps and improve consistency and accessibility.

In this role, you will also support asset stewardship efforts by identifying, inventorying, and processing surplus IT equipment in accordance with established procedures.

Our top candidate will demonstrate organization and records management skills, technical writing ability, familiarity with IT systems and equipment, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.


What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the IT Support Technician 1 will:

  • Assist in the standardization of technical records and operational, audit and research data repositories.
  • Assist with efforts to consolidate disparate file systems to ensure information accessibility and integrity.
  • Assist in development of uniform standards and templates for technical records and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization under direct supervision.
  • Participate in and observe comprehensive audits of current data storage systems to identify inefficiencies, while researching and evaluating new repository technologies that enhance data retrieval and security.
  • Work under direct supervision and assist with efforts to analyze and consolidate fragmented file systems by migrating disparate files into centralized, authoritative repositories, eliminating redundancy and resolving version control issues.
  • Assist in efforts to collaborate with department stakeholders to document existing workflows and implement sustainable indexing strategies that streamline the maintenance of technical documentation.
  • Assist in selection efforts for agency backup solution, participate in process and assist with research, quoting, diagramming efforts as needed.
  • Assist with completion of necessary documentation for all accountable equipment identified for surplus of Maple Park datacenter.


Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following competencies are required:

  • Learning Mindset: Meets the education eligibility requirements for student employment (internship) as outlined in RCW 43.06.420 and currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution for an undergraduate IT-related academic degree program.
  • Windows Operating Systems: Working knowledge of installation, configuration, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Azure: Working knowledge of cloud-based services, administration, and management tools.
  • Data Center Operations: Foundational understanding of data center environments, procedures, and best practices.
  • Server and Storage Hardware: Foundational knowledge of server and storage components, functionality, and maintenance.
  • Documentation Skills: Exceptional ability to create clear, organized, and accurate technical records and operational procedures.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Growth Mindset: Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth.
  • Service-Oriented: Takes action to meet the needs of others.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also demonstrate:

  • Data Center Operations: Working knowledge of data center practices, monitoring, and operations.
  • Server and Storage Hardware: Working knowledge of installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Internet Information Services (IIS): Foundational knowledge of web server configuration and management.
  • Web Application Development and Deployment: Foundational understanding of processes and lifecycle management.
  • ASPx / C# Programming: Foundational knowledge of programming concepts and basic application development.


Important Notes

  • This is a non-permanent position, expected to last 3 – 5 months.
  • This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
  • In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.

  • This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options.
