Job Description

Summary

This job involves analyzing and advising on cyber defense policies for the U.S.

military's cyber command, assessing how new rules might impact operations, and recommending changes to keep everything secure and effective.

It requires working closely with teams inside and outside the organization to handle threats from malicious actors in cyberspace.

A good fit would be someone with strong experience in cybersecurity policy and a background in military or government tech roles who enjoys collaborating on high-stakes defense strategies.

About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f.

Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at Fort Meade, MD.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Analyzes and provides expert assessments to J3, the USCYBERCOM management team and supported CC/S/As of anticipated and new Joint and DoD policy and instructions relevant to Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO).
  • Assesses potential effects on USCYBERCOM operations and recommends appropriate actions, including development of new/revised USCYBERCOM and supported CC/S/A policy and operations guides.
  • Collaborates within USCYBERCOM J3 Directorates, JFHQ-DODIN, and supported CC/S/As to identify DCO, DoDIN OPS and cyberspace defense programs and strategies that are consistent with USCYBERCOM.
  • Provides technical advice and consultation to USCYBERCOM J3 on all matters relating to malicious computer activity, malicious cyberspace actors (MCAs), DCO, DoDIN OPS, NETOPS, and cyberspace defense, and emerging trends.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with professional peers in Government, industry and private sector computer security, law enforcement, and technical research organizations to collect and exchange information useful to DCO.
