PUERTO RICO NATIONAL GUARD ARMY TECHNICIAN VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT COLA: 2.49% DUTY LOCATION: JFHQ-PR, DSCIM-G6, Fort Buchanan, PR IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This position requires military membership in the Puerto Rico Army National Guard (PRARNG).
If you are not a military member of the PRARNG (i.e.
Airman, civilian, active-duty Soldier, prior service, guard member from another state, reservist, IRR, State Guard, etc.), you must contact the Recruiting and Retention (R&R) Office at (787) 289-1400 extension 2015 or 2008 and request the PRARNG Military Basic Requirements (MBR) Certification.
If the MBR certification is not submitted, or you do not meet the requirements to be a member of the PRARNG, your application will not be screened.
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: HRO MUST process and clear the Department of Defense (DoD), Priority Placement Program (PPP), prior to advertising all internal and external job vacancies and promotion announcements.

DUTIES: As a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (D0262P01), GS-2210-11, you will function as a technical specialist on issues relating to the wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) systems and their integration in the network.
The work involves network administration, optimization and performance in support of the supports the state's wide area command and control integrated network.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is sedentary. No special demands are required to perform the work. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in a typical office setting.
Special safety precautions are not required.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least ONE (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower-level GS-09 or the equivalent THIRTY-SIX (36) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as performing a variety of network device configuration and connectivity tasks; executing procedures and coordinating corrective action to optimize network performance; installing, configuring and monitoring tested and evaluated software packages that provide performance measurements of the WAN/LAN; implementing the standard configuration software loads for all network devices; utilizing benchmarks and performance measurement and evaluation data to manage network servers and data communication devices to support normal and surge workload; working with technical support personnel in resolving critical problems; using remote management software tools to maintain and update configuration, protocol and user/system files; configuring hubs and switches; monitoring network performance, performing network diagnostics, analyzing network traffic patterns and installing network software fixes and upgrades.
