Summary

This job involves leading a team to manage and secure computer networks for the Navy, including monitoring performance, fixing issues, and running projects to improve the system.

Full Job Description

You will serve as the Network Lead within the Information Technology Operations Branch of the Corporate Operations Department of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-13 and GS-14.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-04 pay band (GS-11/12 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: leading a technical team by delegating tasks, managing network-related projects, and overseeing the lifecycle of hardware, software, or operating systems to ensure optimal data communications and network security.

Examples of qualifying experience may include: Managing and securing complex Information System Networks.

A strong technical command of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), routing and switching, and the use of advanced network troubleshooting tools to ensure system availability.

Assessing risks and vulnerabilities within a network infrastructure and applying Cyber Security tools and industry best practices to mitigate threats.

Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

  • You will monitor network performance through continuous monitoring of network health, traffic patterns, and capacity using available network management tools such as SolarWinds.
  • You will lead efforts to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network-related incidents and outages.
  • You will oversee a team of network engineers, technicians, and support staff, ensuring they perform their duties efficiently.
  • You will identify and implement strategies to optimize network performance, including load balancing, traffic shaping, and reducing bottlenecks.
  • You will lead network-related projects, such as upgrades, migrations, or new deployments, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
