Job Description

Summary

This job involves managing and improving secure network systems for the military, including planning projects for optical and IP-based communications and working with teams to install and integrate these networks.

It supports the US Cyber Command's mission in cybersecurity.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in IT networking, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate technical details to non-experts, ideally with a background in defense or government projects.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of experience managing telecommunications projects, including planning, integration, or optimization of optical or IP-based networks
  • Expertise in routing, switching, and transmission systems
  • Demonstrated IT competencies: attention to detail in reviewing work for accuracy, customer service in assessing and meeting IT needs, oral communication for briefing management and staff, and problem-solving for complex IT issues
  • Experience assessing new communications requirements, performance deficiencies, and interoperability
  • Ability to lead project teams in configuring, installing, and integrating networked systems for voice, data, video, and AISR formats
  • Provide program management and represent the division at conferences and meetings with military, government, and commercial entities

Full Job Description

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service.

It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command.

It is in the PROFESSIONAL Work Category at the FULL PERFORMANCE Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. It is located in the DISA - OC/CENTRAL COMMAND.

Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies appropriate to, or above, the level of this position.

For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: Managing telecommunications projects, including the planning, integration, or optimization of optical or IP-based networks OR assessing new communications requirements OR developing network policies, with demonstrated expertise in routing, switching, and transmission systems.

All qualifications must be met within 30 days after the closing date of the announcement. **Combination of education and experience is not applicable for this position.** Major Duties:

  • Provide program management direction and represent the division at conferences and meetings with military departments, government agencies, and commercial companies on matters related to optical and IP networks.
  • Lead project teams in planning, configuring, installing, and integrating managed networked systems for the transmission of voice, data, video, and/or AISR formats, while synchronizing execution with the DISA HQ program manager and the customer.
  • Assess new communications systems requirements, performance deficiencies, and interoperability to identify technology enhancements for the Enterprise Infrastructure.
  • Participate in developing policies and concepts for DISN integration and optimization projects to accommodate the requirements of military and civilian agencies.
