Join our team as a Cloud Solutions Engineer!

We are seeking a proficient engineer in major cloud services, such Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure to lead design and implementation of highly scalable secure cloud infrastructure.

While AWS is the State’s largest cloud infrastructure provider, the ideal candidate would also have some hands-on, practical experience with GCP and Microsoft Azure to drive multi-cloud strategy, portability, and best-in-class solutions.

You will serve as a technical resource, translating complex business requirements into robust, cost-optimized, and resilient cloud architecture blueprints.

State employees are required to reside within the state of Utah.

This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and telework days (two days a week in office required). The office is located at the Taylorsville State Office Building, 4315 S 2700 W, Taylorsville, UT. Please note, a position's eligibility for telework is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.

Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP):
  • 3 medical plan options. Choose a Traditional or High Deductible Health Plan. (There is an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those that have other medical insurance coverage)

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
  • Employees hired on or after than 7/1/2011 and have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
  • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
  • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in Tier I Public Employees System.
Paid Time Off:
  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
  • Annual leave increases with years of service.
  • There are also 12 paid holidays.

Requirements

  • Cloud Architecture: Design, deploy, and manage core services within Cloud Hyperscalers, focusing on Compute, Networking, Storage, Database, Serverless, and Security.

  • Multi-Cloud Strategy: Evaluate and recommend optimal cloud solutions across AWS, GCP, and Azure, ensuring platform consistency, disaster recovery planning, and seamless integration between environments.

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Drive automation efforts using Terraform or CloudFormation for provisioning, management, and continuous deployment of infrastructure resources.

  • Cost Management: Continuously monitor and optimize cloud spend across all platforms, identifying and implementing cost-saving strategies (FinOps).

  • Mentorship & Documentation: Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to engineering teams and maintain high-quality, up-to-date documentation of all cloud environments.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure (AWS or, GCP).

  • Knowledge of the public cloud well-architected framework.

  • A naturally curious and proactive problem-solver who thrives on complex technical challenges, always looking for ways to innovate.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to Connect effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization.


Preferred Qualifications
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in IT, with at least 3+ years as a hands-on Cloud Roles.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Demonstrable experience designing and deploying production workloads in at least two of the three major clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure).

  • Proven expertise with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, specifically Terraform.

  • (Preferred) Strong understanding of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS/GKE).

  • In-depth knowledge of networking principles, security best practices, and cloud identity management (IAM).

  • Employment contingent on passing a drug screening and a background check.
