This position is in the Office of Inspector General/Driver Fraud Unit at the SCDMV Headquarters, Blythewood, SC.




Responsibilities of the Fraud Inspector III

  • Investigates suspected fraudulent activities related to motor vehicle document applications, including identity theft, vehicle theft, and other irregularities within DMV records and systems.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed case reports that ensure findings, investigation and action are documented.
  • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders including DMV staff, law enforcement, and other government agencies.
  • Monitor and analyze operational activities to identify instances of fraud, evaluate potential vulnerabilities, and recommend preventative measures.
  • Acts as a liaison between law enforcement and government agencies, DMV customers, and other DMV offices.
  • Engage in continuous learning to enhance skills relevant to DMV fraud detection and prevention.
  • Performs other job duties as required.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • A high school diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. A bachelor's degree may substitute for the required work experience.

Agency Requirements

  • A nationwide criminal background check to include fingerprints must be completed prior to assuming the duties of this position.

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the job.
  • Ability to conduct in-depth research thru Phoenix system.
  • Knowledge of fraudulent documents.
  • Ability to analyze facts and reach sound conclusions.
  • Ability to present clear, concise, and comprehensive written and oral reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, law enforcement and the public.
  • Ability to respond professionally during stressful situations.
  • Employee works under general supervision, must be able to independently react to critical situations making complex, objective decisions while exercising sound judgements.
  • Employee must operate within the guidelines of DMV and State policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with the general public, employees and law enforcement officers.
  • Must be able to travel when required.

Qualifications

Agency Preferred

  • A high school diploma plus two (2) years’ experience as it relates to titling and registration of motor vehicles or an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience.
