About the Position: This position is located within the Department of Logistics, Equipment Management at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

The incumbent will serve as a Government Purchase Card (GPC) holder, making micro-purchases and processing requests for contract services.

This role is primarily office-based, but may involve moderate risks requiring the use of protective clothing. Work hours are negotiable.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with purchasing medical and non-medical expendable supplies; identifying supply discrepancies and recommending solutions; conducting inventories and/or replenishing warehouse stocked items; and utilizing complex automated systems.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Logistics or Supply Chain Management.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Major Duties:

  • Integrate management and control of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Research available suppliers to ensure that the Military Treatment Facility receives overall best value.
  • Remain informed and in compliance with all new supply initiatives including standardization, automated systems, and procurement programs.
  • Serve as an Approving Official and/or Purchase card holder to conduct procurement requirements below the micro-purchase threshold for supplies and services.
  • Order and stock a variety of technical supplies ranging from common administrative and medical support materials through surgical instruments and surgical support equipment.
  • Serve as expert facilitator in all fields of logistics involving medical and non-medical supplies and services.
