Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading technical work on the design, building, and maintenance of complex weapon and fire control systems for the Navy, including overseeing contractors and solving problems in hardware and software.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, operations research, computer science, or related field (basic education requirement)
  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-12 level or equivalent, providing technical oversight in design, installation, and integration of complex systems like fire control or weapon systems
  • Experience in development, production, and sustainment of hardware, software, and documentation for shipboard systems
  • Ability to lead and review contractor efforts in system engineering, including hardware, software, firmware, NDI, and COTS products
  • Skills in analyzing design artifacts, problem reports, process metrics, and field data to identify trends in reliability, maintainability, and quality assurance
  • Proficiency in ensuring problem resolutions, such as design corrections or interface re-coordination, are completed effectively
  • Capability to plan, manage projects technically, coordinate with teams, assign tasks, and resolve issues

In addition to the basic education requirement, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or NH-03 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or scientist providing technical oversight and direction in the design, installation and integration of highly complex systems for the development and sustainment of fire control systems or weapon systems.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will be involve in all development, production, and sustainment activities for the advanced and deployed system hardware, software, and documentation under the cognizance of the Shipboard Systems (SPS).
  • You will technically lead and review the system engineering efforts of the contractor in the development of hardware, software, firmware, Non-Developmental Items (NDI)/Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) software/firmware product designs.
  • You will analyze design artifacts/problem reports, process metrics, and field data for trends, which indicate design, Reliability and Maintainability (R and M) or Quality Assurance problems.
  • You will will ensure that problem resolutions, which may involve correction of a design deficiency, re-coordination of a system interface, or a variety of other actions, are identified, initiated, and completed as warranted.
  • You will be responsible for planning and carrying out the work technically managing the project, coordinating with others, assigning tasks as required, and resolving problems.
