Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing the engineering and development of critical missile systems, including flight termination, telemetry, and guidance components, for the Navy's Strategic Systems Programs.

You'll lead contractor teams, ensure product quality, and manage technical aspects from design to implementation to meet program goals.

It's a great fit for experienced engineers with a background in defense or aerospace who enjoy leading complex projects and solving technical challenges.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 or NH-02 in engineering, focusing on technical development, product design, production, and implementation of flight termination and telemetry systems
  • Professional engineering degree or equivalent qualifications as per OPM standards for all professional engineering positions (0800 series)
  • Expertise in providing technical oversight and leadership for contractor engineering and product assurance efforts
  • Experience leading development of Strategic Weapons Systems (SWS), including missile, reentry, and guidance subsystems
  • Knowledge of monitoring, approving, and ensuring compliance with configuration management, design changes, and sustainment of hardware, software, and support equipment
  • Ability to implement program policies, engineering criteria, and represent the command in interactions with contractors, field activities, and stakeholders
  • Strong skills in influencing, monitoring, and approving contractor efforts to meet system requirements and contractual obligations

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer providing technical oversight and direction to manage the technical development, product design, production, and implementation of flight termination and telemetry systems to devise effective solutions that solve program constraints.

  • You will provide special technical expertise and leadership in complex coordination and management of all contractor engineering and product assurance efforts.
  • You will lead development efforts related to the Strategic Weapons Systems (SWS) and missile, reentry and guidance subsystems.
  • You will monitor and approve efforts dealing with acceptability, utilization and sustainment of hardware, support equipment and software including design and process changes.
  • You will assure that configuration control of the weapons system is in compliance with the approved Configuration Management processes.
  • You will implement program policy and engineering criteria and provides information to the prime contractor and Navy field activities.
  • You will influence, lead, monitor, and approve contractor development efforts, system requirements, design and product quality assurance efforts in satisfying contractual requirements for various subsystems.
  • You will provide special technical expertise and leadership in complex coordination and management of all contractor engineering and product assurance efforts.
  • You will represent the command in assigned areas of responsibility when interfacing with field activities, fleet representatives, contractors, laboratories, and consultants.
