This vacancy is with the Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs in Downtown.

Salary: $5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR-22, Step D to I)

Requirements

Conducts examinations of insurance companies, fraternal organizations, mutual benefit, hospital and medical associations and domestic insurance rating organizations to determine solvency, soundness of management and policies and compliance under the law; supervises examinations and audits of insurance agencies to assure compliance with insurance laws; supervises the annual audit of all insurance organizations’ premium tax, financial and operating statements, collection of all premium taxes, and preparation of annual reports; assigns work and consolidates and analyzes results of all examinations, audits and investigations; prepares examination and audit reports; and performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK REQUIREMENT:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


Education Requirements: A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects.

General Experience: One year of professional experience in accounting or auditing which required the knowledge and application of generally accepted professional accounting and/or auditing principles and practices.

Specialized Experience: Two years of professional experience in accounting in the insurance field or of auditing or financial examination of insurance business operations which provided knowledge of the insurance industry organization, operations and practices; and laws, rules and regulations governing the conduct of such businesses.

Non-Qualifying Experience: The following types of experience will not be accepted as the professional experience required for these positions. Experience in positions where the duties did not require full professional knowledge and application of generally accepted accounting principles or auditing standards such as an operator of accounting or bookkeeping machine, or in bookkeeping, or in minor accounting or clerical positions (e.g., time, leave, payroll, voucher examining, etc.); experience as an office manager or owner of a business who supervises accountants, auditors or bookkeepers but did not participate in the accounting or auditing work with responsibility for its technical adequacy.
