Summary

This job involves investigating and resolving insurance claims related to accidents and damages for the state government, including working with lawyers on court cases and managing some property claims.

Full Job Description

Serves as an insurance Analyst III in the IRF-Tort Claims Department. Under limited supervision but within IRF standards, the examiner is responsible for handling medium and complex third-party casualty claims inclusive of coverage determination, investigation and resolution. A significant percentage of claims will be in suit and will require interaction with approved defense counsel, inclusive of attending mediation and trials. The examiner will also handle some First Party property claims as well.

Knowledge and Skills needed:
  • Casualty coverage interpretation experience.
  • Ability to evaluate third party injury and property liability claims.
  • Ability to instruct and supervise claims handled by independent adjusters.
  • Customer service skills.
  • The ability to write clear and concise reports and claim file log notes.
  • Ability to manage claim files using a diary system.
  • Ability to work mail and return phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Some first party property damage claim handling experience.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree and experience as a claims representative handling property and casualty claims or a high school diploma and approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources regulations.

Qualifications

Experience as a claims representative handling workers compensation, health care or disability claims will be considered as well.
