This job involves installing and fabricating insulation materials on pipes, tanks, and equipment in submarines and ships to control heat, prevent moisture, and reduce noise.
Workers prepare patterns, cut and fit materials, and ensure everything is safely applied while following deadlines.
It's a good fit for hands-on tradespeople with experience in construction or shipyard work who can work independently with minimal supervision.
You will serve as an INSULATOR in the LAGGING/PIPE COVER SHOP (57A) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION 1) Fabricating and installing insulating materials to the surfaces of pipes, ducts, valves, fittings, flanges, boilers, tanks, turbines, distilling plants, refrigeration units, and similar components on submarines and surface craft.
2) Preparing patterns, templates, and sketches of items to be covered. 3) Computing terminal conductivity and sound absorbency to determine the proper type of insulation required.
4) Fabricating molder sections of insulation for special parts and configurations by cutting and fitting various segments of insulation.
5) Planning and laying out insulating work for junior insulators while meeting deadlines.
