Job Description

Summary

This job is for a history instructor at a community college, where you'll teach classes to a variety of students, create and update lesson plans, hold office hours, and help with student advising and college events.

Full Job Description

Teach History courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new programs; maintain office hours; participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement; attend graduation ceremony; assist with student advising and registration; serve on College committees; promote institutional goals; assist with departmental administrative responsibilities. Teaching may be on any campus, or by distance learning, and may be days, nights, weekends, or a combination.

TEACHING PERFORMANCE – The ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.

INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The development, revision, and maintenance of courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and appropriate materials.

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT – The effective use of required office hours, exhibition of effective classroom management and control, and timely and accurately submitted reports.

STUDENT ADVISEMENT – The participation of the faculty member, when applicable, in assisting students in personal and professional development.

COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICES – Participation in College activities and the promotion of the College through public service.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The participation of the faculty member in activities designed to develop professional skills so as to maintain and improve proficiency in his/her present position.

Requirements

A master's degree in History or a master's degree in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in History.

A PhD in History, experience teaching history courses online and in-person, and experience teaching college-level transfer courses to adults & dual enrollment students.
