DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The plumbing Inspector coordinates the enforcement and application of various codes, ordinances and technical specifications for plumbing systems to ensure conformance with plumbing plans and specifications. Performs investigations of unpermitted plumbing work and issues citations or seeks supervisory assistance with regards to unlicensed contractors or individuals. Performs plumbing inspections, identifies problem areas with plumbing systems, serves correction notices and recommends solutions based on applicable plumbing codes and ordinances. Meets with the general public, contractors, technical professionals and businesses to respond to inquiries and technical problems related to plumbing systems. Performs record keeping activities to maintain filing systems, reports and documentation. Researches and evaluates plumbing plans, specifications and drawings. Performs other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as computers or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier II Level.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires High School Diploma or G.E.D. and up to 18 months of education or training in the area of inspection to be performed.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of journey level or skilled experience related to the area of inspection to be performed are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas Driver's License and be in compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).

Certificate/License: Code Enforcement: The following certificates/licenses are preferred to be obtained within 11 months of employment in the area of inspection to be performed: Licensed by the State Board of Plumbing Examiners; and, ICBO or IAPMO Plumbing Inspector Certificate.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who possess a plumbing license.

Preference may be given to applicants with valid ICC, or IAPMO Inspector's Certificate.

Preference may also be given to applicants who can obtain said certification and/or licensing within 11 months of employment.



**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

However, the department may administer a skills assessment test.

SALARY INFORMATION
Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

PAY GRADE 18

INCENTIVES/AWARDS
Retention: Eligible for award of up to $3000.00, upon completion of 24 months employment Certification: Eligible for annual incentives of up to $3900.00, upon acquisition of eligible certifications.
Step Increase: Salary adjusted by 3.1% upon start of 3rd year of employment
Salary adjusted by 2.8% upon start of 5th year of employment
