Full Job Description

The Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Information Technology Support Technician to join our team.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing technical support for courtroom audio/visual systems, digital recording technologies, and general information technology needs across the Iowa Judicial Branch.

This position ensures that courtroom technology operates reliably during judicial proceedings, assists users with hardware and software issues, and maintains compliance with Judicial Branch digital recording standards.

The role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide excellent customer service to judicial officers, staff, attorneys, and court users.

This position is based in the Pottawattamie County Courthouse in Council Bluffs, Iowa and will cover all counties in judicial district 4: Harrison, Shelby, Audubon, Pottawattamie, Cass, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont, and Page. This role requires travel to judicial locations in the counties listed.

The starting salary for new State of Iowa Judicial Branch employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. The pay range for this position is $52,936.00 to $83,678.40. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant experience above minimum qualifications.

Position classification is determined as the ‘best fit’ of the duties assigned to and performed by a position. This position is classified as a Information Technology Support Technician as summarized below.

Summary

Provide technical computer and information technology assistance for Iowa Judicial Branch users and operations.

Key Responsibilities

Courtroom Audio/Visual & Recording Support

  • Ensure all courtrooms have fully functioning audio and visual systems through regular testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Effectively operate and manage digital recording management software used to record official court proceedings.
  • Monitor compliance with Judicial Branch digital recording policies by judicial officers and court support staff.
  • Organize, maintain, and archive digitally recorded court proceedings to ensure accuracy and availability.
  • Purge digital recordings according to Judicial Branch retention policies and schedules.
  • Process requests for copies of digitally recorded proceedings and assist the District Court Administrator, or designee, with transcript requests.
  • Organize and configure courtroom technology equipment, including bench A/V components and cable management, ensuring efficient use of space.

Training & Documentation

  • Train employees in proper use of audio/visual courtroom technologies.
  • Create and maintain accurate user guides, documentation, and reference materials for courtroom technology.

Video Conferencing Support

  • Provide support to judicial officers, attorneys, and litigants using video conferencing platforms for remote hearings.
  • Coordinate technology needs with attorneys, self-represented parties, and judicial officers to ensure successful participation in virtual proceedings.

General IT Support

  • Provide technical computer and information technology assistance for Iowa Judicial Branch users and operations.
  • Respond to user inquiries, diagnose issues, and provide effective solutions.
  • Perform hardware and software installations, updates, and configurations.
  • Prioritize, schedule, and administer preventative maintenance and system updates.
  • Perform hands-on technical fixes, including software upgrades, hardware installations, file backups, and system configuration.
  • Record all service requests, troubleshooting steps, actions, and resolutions, update users on request status.
  • Provide customer service and training to users on software applications, cybersecurity best practices, and system operation.

Other Duties

Qualifications

The incumbent must meet the minimum requirements to qualify for the position.

  1. High school diploma (or high school equivalency diploma).
  2. One (1) year of experience in computer science or related experience.

Experience may be substituted with related education on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience in computer science, business systems analysis, management information systems, or closely related field.
    • At least one (1) year of the above with hand-on work in AV equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
