This job is for a junior network administrator in a naval intelligence communications center, where you'll help manage and troubleshoot computer networks under the guidance of more experienced staff.
It involves learning basics like configuring devices, monitoring performance, and fixing common issues to keep secure communications running smoothly.
It's a good fit for someone with some IT experience or a relevant degree who wants to grow in government tech roles, especially if you're detail-oriented and enjoy problem-solving in a team setting.
You will serve as a Junior Network Administrator within the Hopper Global Communications Center of HOPPER GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS CENTER.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: GG-07: I have one year of information technology related experience at the next lower grade level in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1.
Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. 2.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
In addition to the four competencies, you must demonstrate one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the federal service or private or public sector such as: 1.
Focusing on learning fundamental networking concepts, Cisco device configuration, and basic troubleshooting techniques within a structured, supervised environment. 2.
Assisting with router and switch configurations, monitoring network performance using basic tools, and troubleshooting common connectivity issues under the guidance of senior staff. 3.
Learning and applying basic troubleshooting techniques to resolve common network connectivity problems, escalating complex issues to senior staff. 4.
Assisting with maintaining network documentation, including device inventories, network diagrams, and configuration backups. 5.
Shadowing senior network administrators to gain practical experience in network maintenance and troubleshooting.
OR 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree GG-09: I have one year of information technology related experience at the next lower grade level in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1.

Maintaining network devices, proactively monitoring network performance, resolving network incidents, implementing and managing basic security configurations, collaborating with other IT teams, and participating in on-call rotation.
2. Participating with higher-grade specialists to install, configure, and maintain Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and encryption devices.
Learning to monitor network performance using various tools and proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks and potential issues. 3.
Assisting with managing network security configurations, including access control lists (ACLs), firewall rules, and VPN tunnels. 4.
Assisting with troubleshooting network connectivity problems, utilizing diagnostic tools and techniques to isolate and resolve root causes.
Assisting with developing and maintaining accurate network documentation, including device inventories, network diagrams, and configuration backups. 5.
Collaborating with other IT teams on cross-functional projects, ensuring seamless network integration.
OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B.
