This position is located in the McAllen Office.

GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience.

Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped you with the competencies needed to perform the job duties.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.

Examples of specialized experience include the following types of duties: providing Information Technology customer support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; providing user training and assistance on a variety of routine applications; assisting in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware; assisting in network monitoring and management; and assisting in organization-wide account maintenance and software/hardware updates.

Education: One of the following types of education: a PH.D or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.

This education must have been in one of the following fields OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management.

Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

(Only graduate education in excess of 2 full years is creditable.

To calculate your percentage of education, first determine the total number of hours that exceed 36 semester hours or your school's definition of two full years of study.

Then divide the total number of your excess semester hours by 18 or your school's definition of one year of study.

To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together.

The sum of the percentages must equal to at least 100%. For example, if you had 9 months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9, then you would have 75% of the required experience.

If you also had 45 semester hours of creditable graduate education, 45 - 36 = 9 semester hours. 9 divided by 18 is 50% of the required education, and therefore, 75% + 50% = 125%.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team responsible for providing broad information technology support for the United States Attorney's Office, Southern District of Texas.

Typical work assignments will include: - Plans and schedules the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems and applications software; - Manages accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment; - Maintains and controls district's computer equipment inventory; - Manages the installation or integration of systems fixes, updates, and enhancements; - Maintains network architecture and infrastructure; - Configures and maintains network servers, hubs, routers and switches; - Develops and maintains network backup and recovery processes or procedures; - Implements policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility; - Monitors functionality, security and integrity of internet services.
