Job Description

Summary

This job involves inspecting workplaces to identify health risks like hazardous materials or noise, then recommending ways to fix them, such as better ventilation or protective gear.

Key Requirements

  • Basic requirements for Industrial Hygienist series (0690) per OPM standards

  • For GS-09: One year specialized experience at GS-07 level, including performing industrial hygiene inspections, writing detailed reports, interpreting health standards and regulations, and managing survey data in DOEHRS-IH
  • Ability to recognize and evaluate occupational health hazards
  • Experience reviewing facility plans for construction or renovations to control hazards
  • Proficiency in conducting and documenting exposure assessments
  • Skills in providing technical guidance to junior staff

SALARY RANGE: GS-07: $57,641-$74,935 GS-09: $70,507-$91,664 GS-09: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience performing industrial hygiene inspections, surveys and evaluations Experience writing concise detailed reports on findings Experience interpreting published health standards and Federal regulations Experience maintaining data, documents, samples, and monitoring results of surveys in Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System - Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) database or similar systems GS-07: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will work with engineering, safety and supervisory personnel to devise control measures such as change in work procedures, ventilation systems, material substitution, or the use of personal protective devices.
  • You will recognize and evaluate occupational health hazards.
  • You will perform unscheduled evaluations and accompanies special inspection teams.
  • You will review facility plans for new construction, renovation and modification of existing structures for appropriate engineering controls to control hazardous materials, noise and physical hazards.
  • You will conduct and document Similar Exposure Groups exposure assessments in the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System- Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) database.
  • You will provide on-the-job technical guidance to on-site junior industrial hygienists and industrial hygiene technicians in carrying out inspections, surveys and samplings.
