Duty Location: Lakewood, Colorado To be eligible for consideration, you must first meet the Basic Education Requirement for this position, having: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene (external link) (ABIH)).
Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.

To qualify at the GS-13, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-12 level in federal service having demonstrating specialized experience in: leading a regional or equivalent industrial hygiene program that includes elements of at least, but not limited to: developing and recommending to management officials approaches to work that demonstrate the purpose and principles of industrial hygiene; applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and/or procedures to determine the presence and effectiveness of industrial hygiene in the workplace; advising management on and/or resolving technical matters dealing with industrial hygiene requirements; developing industrial hygiene practices and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards specific to one or more workplaces; advising, instructing, mentoring, and/or training other industrial hygienists and/or safety professionals about industrial hygiene technical practices, methodologies, and/or applications; and developing or implementing actions to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses.

Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).

Leads the Bureau of Reclamation's Safety and Occupational Health Program Industrial Hygiene core program element.
Develops, implements, and manages Industrial Hygiene guidance, criteria, and data quality control standards to inform occupational health and medical surveillance requirements.
Provides authoritatively technical advice, guidance, and instruction to bureau safety and occupational health professionals, regional industrial hygienists, and management officials.
Prepares, coordinates, and delivers training and education in support of the bureau and the Department of the Interior.
