What you will do:
As the Individual Income Tax Audit Manager, you will lead and guide the Department’s domestic income tax audit program, providing direction to audit supervisors and staff, overseeing complex audit and appeal matters, and ensuring consistent application of South Carolina tax laws.
Primary job duties include:
- Providing leadership, evaluating, and monitoring domestic audit objectives with a focus on income tax and the job responsibilities of audit supervisors, including conducting audit case reviews
- Participating in decision making with senior management
- Providing instructions, guidance, and procedures on administrative and technical matters related to the operation of the section
- Reviewing filed appeals in the domestic audit section and holding appeal conferences with taxpayers and/or their representatives to determine the accuracy of the assessment
- Interpreting complicated state tax laws and issues related to filed appeals
- Coordinating recruitment, hiring, personnel development, and retention of talent in accordance with agency needs
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, business administration, finance, or insurance and professional experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis.
Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Qualifications
- An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- Advanced degree in business, accounting, or taxation
- 4 or more years of experience in auditing or taxation
- 2 years of experience in auditing or taxation in a management capacity

- Hours: Flexible hours may be available from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
- Telework schedule: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment with SCDOR.
- Office location: Depending on space availability, you may have the option to choose which SCDOR office you work in (Columbia, Charleston, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Beaufort, or Rock Hill.).
