Job Description

Summary

This job involves advising Air National Guard commanders and staff on military human resources programs, such as personnel records, training, and policy guidance, while analyzing data to support unit decisions.

Full Job Description

This National Guard position is for a HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST (MILITARY), Position Description Number D162200 and is part of the KS Air Headquarters, Topeka, KS Air National Guard.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Military Grades: E2 through E6 Compatible Military Assignments: 3F0X1 * Must be willing and able to cross train into the compatible AFSC GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience in the following: Skilled in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately; Ability to clearly communicate English without impediment of speech that would interfere or prohibit efficient communication; Ability to write English in reports and presentation formats; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively; Skilled in presenting formal training presentations and briefings; Ability to assess body language and perceive emotional and/or distress levels; and, Skilled in applying procedures and directives by reading and interpreting program material.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one year of specialized experiences at the GS-07 level or the equivalent which provided a basic working knowledge of National Guard missions, organizations, and personnel programs.

A basic knowledge and experiences of personnel programs gained in a classroom or as an on-the-job trainee.

Have knowledge-based competency of human resources business elements and can discuss terminology, concepts, principles, and issues related to this competency.

Experienced in using references and resource materials and experienced in program functions such as, maintaining personnel records, counseling, or classification and assignments.

Experiences may include performing personnel functions associated with preparing and maintaining position descriptions and manual records, personnel classification or usage, quality force management, managing personnel records and researching record data.

Experienced in operating a computer and using varied computer programs. Major Duties:

As a HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST (MILITARY), GS-0201-09, you will serve as advisor to commanders on assigned unit human resources (HR) programs.

Interprets policy and provides procedural guidance to commanders, supervisors, and staff members. Provide guidance and assistance on unit program(s) for which responsible.

Provide training to supervisors on all military human resources issues.

Analyzes data and subsequent determinations regarding any number of human resources matters that may involve or affect AGRs, drill status guardsmen, and/or family members.

Advise supervisors or managers within unit when actions may affect productivity or mission.

Conduct staff visits and trains personnel (AGRs), traditional drill status guardsmen, supervisors, managers, etc.) within the unit in all programs for which responsible.

Conduct periodic briefings for staff, commanders, and administrative personnel to promote a full understanding of all aspects of the assigned program(s).

Provide commanders, supervisors, and the MPF staff with a variety statistical data reports pertaining to military HR issues to assist in HR management decisions.

Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period.
