About the Position: The Human Resources Specialist (Classification) position is with the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, G1, Deputy Chief of Staff, Personnel and Manpower Directorate, Talent Acquisition and Retention Division located at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: evaluating position descriptions to determine appropriate series and grade combinations; assisting with position management reviews to recommend improvements for efficiency and employee development; researching and providing guidance on various human resources programs, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and hazard pay; and utilizing automated systems to enter and retrieve organization and position data.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral Communication Position Classification Written Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Major Duties:

  • Brief supervisors on job audit findings and explains the impact on a position's classification.
  • Explain official complaint and appeal procedures to employees and supervisors to ensure they understand their rights and the formal process.
  • Develop written recommendations for management proposing reorganizations or other structural improvements.
  • Prepare position descriptions for various activities and organizations for general schedule, wage grade, and DCIPS positions.
  • Classify jobs by applying a thorough understanding of position classification principles and guidance.
  • Administer special classification programs, such as FLSA and hazard pay, and provides guidance on their application
