Summary

This job involves helping with hiring new employees for the U.S. Marine Corps by reviewing resumes, preparing paperwork, coordinating job offers, and supporting new hire orientations in San Diego.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (RECRUIT/PLACEMENT) in the CIVILIAN HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICE of MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT.

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector Applying human resources rules, procedures and operations to coordinate recruit and non-recruitment actions; tracking and monitoring pre-employment requirements; using various computer applications to perform complex reports; AND providing oral and written communication.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will assist the hiring manager with completion of the Recruitment Position Checklist and provide limited technical assistance to employees/managers concerning recruitments.
  • You will review resumes for basic qualifications and eligibility.
  • You will create Requests for Personnel Actions (RPAs) for recruitment actions and maintain electronic recruitment folders with all mandatory required documents and track recruitment actions from start to finish.
  • You will extend job offers and assign correct pre-employment paperwork based on each recruitment action.
  • You will set basic pay for selectees, schedule drug tests and/or physicals, coordinate release dates with losing Commands and establish Entrance on Duty (EOD) dates.
  • You will coordinate all base access for new hires and send additional reporting instructions to new hires.
  • You will facilitate New Employee Orientation (NEO) training and provide information to customers in person, telephonically or via email regarding general and specific employee benefits.
  • You will create in-processing folders for new hires reference during NEO.
  • You will assist the HR Specialist with non-recruit and suspense report actions.
  • You will create RPAs for standard non-recruit actions and use the 5 Code of Federal Regulations and Guide for Processing Personnel Actions as a reference for accuracy and regulatory authority.
  • You will produce official correspondence in accordance with DON Correspondence Manual.
  • You will create memorandums for the records, review directives, forms, reports, and create and/or maintain spreadsheets or databases.
