Job Description

Summary

This job is for an entry-level HR assistant in a U.S.

Attorney's Office in Macon, Georgia, where you'll help with everyday HR tasks like processing employee paperwork, managing benefits, and supporting recruitment efforts using computer systems.

It's a good fit for someone with basic office experience who enjoys organizing details and working in a government setting.

You'll need to be accurate, tech-savvy, and able to type quickly while following federal rules.

GS-7: To qualify at the GS-7 grade level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as using human resources automated systems to process a variety of personnel and payroll actions for recruitment, staffing, benefits, or compensations; assist in conducting initial reviews for security packages; explain basic federal employment policies and procedures to applicants and employees; and receive incoming requests for new classification actions and screen requests, documents and reports for completeness and accuracy.

To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

(A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) - The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.

If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.

Major Duties:

The position is located in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) in the Middle District of Georgia.

The work involves providing technical assistance and processing support to human resources specialists who provide recruitment and placement, classification, employee relations, employee benefits, personnel action processing and other related services.

Duties will include, but are not limited to: Perform a wide variety of technical support duties in the following human resources management programs such as Position Management and Classification, Recruitment and Placement, Employee Benefits, and Performance Management; Process requests for personnel actions; Conduct initial reviews for security packages and ensures proper documentation; Initiate fingerprints and background investigations; Provide office automation support by using various software programs to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve and print a variety of documents; produce correspondence, memoranda, directives, forms reports; and create or maintain spreadsheets or databases; Review personnel action requests for accuracy, resolve discrepancies and complete missing information; Utilize current knowledge of personnel and payroll automated systems to research case-oriented processing problems that include those of an especially difficult and complex nature.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
