What You Will Be Doing

The Human Resource Technician 2 for Absence Management processes Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Alaska Family Leave Act (AFLA) for State of Alaska employees.

This includes evaluating medical documentation, reviewing payroll and personnel documents for compliance with collective bargaining agreements, Personnel Rules, departmental policies and procedures, and Federal regulations.

This position interacts with employees across the state, as well as the Employee Relations team and Payroll.

Requirements

Six months of entry technical level experience in human resource work equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. 

Substitution: 

Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of advanced clerical experience.

Substitution: 

One year of postsecondary education (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours from an accredited college or university equals one year) in any field.

Special Note: 

High school graduation "equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D (i.e.

passing the General Educational Development test).; 2) completion of any basic adult education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week); 3) six months of work experience performing duties related to office or clerical support; 4) twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to office or clerical support; 5) highest grade of school completed plus any kind of work experience that totals 12 years or more; or 6) acceptance for admission in full standing by an accredited college or university.

"Human resource" work includes experience in recruitment and selection, classification, employee training, employer provided benefits programs, employment law compliance, personnel, payroll, or employee or labor relations.
