Job Description

Summary

This job is for an HR assistant in the South Carolina Adjutant General's Office, where you'll help with hiring new staff, guide them through onboarding, schedule training and health checks, handle injury reports, and keep records organized.

It's a support role focused on the behind-the-scenes work of human resources in a state government setting.

Full Job Description

Serves as the Agency's State Human Resources Office (SHRO) Assistant for Support. Assists with the processes for recruitment and posting of positions for the Agency. Manages the New Hire Orientation process and acquaints new employees with Agency policies, procedures, regulations and documentation associated with on-boarding. Manages the scheduling and tracking of the Agency’s initial, required, and any requested employee training. Assists with the coordination of administrative and Human Resources procedures/processes for the Department. Manages the scheduling of physicals and drug screening for the Agency. Manages the employment verification process. Manages the tracking and Workers Compensation administration and coordination for employee injuries and accidents to include preparation and maintaining of the OSHA Forms 300 and 300A. Serves as the Department’s safety representative. Manages the Agency's records management program. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A high school diploma and administrative experience. Must have NEOGOV experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required work experience.

Qualifications

An Associate’s degree with 3 years’ experience with progressively responsible administrative experience in a human resources environment.

Additional Information

Must have excellent organizational skill with an emphasis on attention-to-detail. Must have knowledge of principle and practices of Human Resources Management. Must have knowledge of Federal laws and State Regulations effecting Human Resources Management. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to analyze needs and resources, and make recommendations to communicate solutions effectively. Must have the ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting a variety of policies and procedures. May be required to work extended hours as required during emergencies, disasters, or as required. Overnight and extended stays may be required to support ongoing operations, and during attendance at conferences, workshops, off-site meetings and seminars.
