DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Collects regulatory compliance samples in the drinking water distribution system and drinking water treatment plants. Collects, analyzes and monitors data relevant to maintaining water quality in the distribution system. Compares readings with established operational ranges to evaluate system performance. Assists contractors with collecting regulatory samples. Conducts flushing at fire hydrants and investigates valves to verify distribution
system operation. Interfaces with customers and provides assistance with selecting and evaluating sample locations. Communicates and coordinates work with contractors, and laboratory staff, and other operators by telephone and e-mail. Work consists of reviewing and complying with standard procedures and tasks where analytic ability is required. Performs other duties as requested. Some overtime and weekend work is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires lifting of heavy items of up to 60 pounds and/or walking on rough surfaces routinely and/or regular physical exertion such as climbing of ladders.
This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier 2 Level.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSRequires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
Requires a valid Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "D" Water/Wastewater Operator's certificate within twelve (12) months from entry into this classification. Within Twenty-four (24) months after either obtaining the Class D certification or entry into this classification, a TCEQ Class "C" Water/Wastewater Operator's certificate must be obtained. Certificates must be appropriate to position location, such as surface water, groundwater, distribution, or wastewater treatment.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to the applicants who have distribution system operations experience.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
