Career OpportunityThe Office of Emergency Management is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Instructor for the Southern Nevada CERT Program.
CERT instructors primarily provide advanced and technical emergency preparedness instruction to community members registered in CERT classes.
Essential Functions:
Work with the CERT coordinator and instructors to ensure proper assignment and coverage of instructors for CERT Basic Program classes.Competently deliver CERT Basic Program instruction to the diverse audience of community participants.Manage CERT Basic Program classes: ensuring proper setup and takedown of equipment and materials; cleanup of class facility; and the completion, accuracy and submission of course all paperwork.
Attend quarterly instructor meetings.Participate in the annual Southern Nevada CERT full scale exercise.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Minimum 21 years of ageValid Nevada driver's licenseAssociate's Degree or equivalent job experienceCompletion of the CERT, Basic Program or equivalent job experience.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
and safely maintain and operate equipment such as fire extinguishers, fire simulators and basic medical equipment.Ability to work both inside and outdoors during all seasons of the year.2 years of experience providing instruction or training2 years of experience working with the general public, including people with limited English proficiency, disability, varied personal and professional experiencePreferred Requirements: Experience as a first responder (Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, Public Works) emergency management, or militarySpanish ProficiencyExperience in curriculum development.
