Full Job Description

Under limited supervision, serves as a Specialty Crew Foreman on a bridge maintenance crew in a wide variety of preventative maintenance, rehabilitation, and repair activities of bridges and culverts in District 4. Supervises subordinate employees in the performance of their activities. Serves as a Specialty Crew Foreman over a District 4 Bridge Maintenance Crew. Plans, manages, and coordinates preventative maintenance, rehabilitation, and repair work for bridge substructure, superstructure, and deck deficiencies noted during bridge inspections. Ensures optimum crew productivity and quality, adherence to specifications, structural soundness of repair and compliance with safety guidelines.

Functions as a working supervisor, operates motorized equipment in a variety of bridge and highway maintenance activities as needed in the absence of regular equipment operators including, but not limited to, crane, crawler dozer, excavators, motor grader and backhoe. Coaches employees on proper equipment usage. Devises a daily schedule for work to be performed by maintenance crew. Determines proper equipment, materials and labor needed in order to complete tasks. Coordinates product delivery of materials used in conjunction with work activities of crew. Maintains accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reports and records related to personnel's working time, accomplishments, material usage, and equipment usage to input date into HMMS.

Monitors the preventative maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life. Conducts safety inspection on all vehicles and equipment and instructs crew members on CDL pre-trip inspection requirements. Coordinates the placement of traffic and safety control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone and/or job site according to current agency guidelines, policies, and procedures. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations throughout the district and state including inclement weather operations and special inspections after a post event such as a Maintenance Repair or Rehabilitation, collision or natural disaster. May include being available for extended hours or extended shift operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Four (4) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
