Summary

Full Job Description

Operates 5-yard standard dump truck and flatbed truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris. Operates small equipment such as brush chipper, roller < 4 tons, and broom sweepers in conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance operations, and standard dump truck with snowplow attachment and sand spreader or brine sprayer applicator for removal of snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs duties using manual labor in such maintenance tasks as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, and paving driveways. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public, and equipment. Removes litter, debris and dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way. Operates equipment such as front-end loaders, belt loaders, tractor with ditcher, specialized mowers, trailer mounted injection patcher, backhoes, and steel wheel rollers. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment /vehicle inspection in accordance with the Department's most current rules, policies, and procedures for fleet safety. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance. Works after hours during inclement weather operations, emergencies, and assists on-call personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.


The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
