Full Job Description

Serves as supervisor of Ruffin Section Shed. Responsible for SPCC and SWP3 Plans and implementation, fire extinguisher inspections, building maintenance, environmental and occupational safety inspection. Responsible for building and grounds, and equipment assigned to this facility. Supervise a crew of five (5) employees from the Ruffin Section Shed area. Plans, organized and participates in work consisting of installing cross line and sideline pipes for storm water drainage and access throughout Colleton County. Supervises the driveway installation and paving operations, covering approximately 1100 miles. Ensures that proper traffic control is set up for the work zone in accordance to Part V of the SCMUTCD. Meets with complainants and various government officials daily to investigate requests/complaints and makes the necessary recommendation for actions to be taken. Maintains daily work reports recording employees work hours, leave time, and daily production in HMMS System. Schedules work and discusses work performance with employees and prepares evaluations of the same. Instructs employees in safety rules and regulations of the Department. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance such as; chain saw, drill, jack, wrenches, pavement breaker, air compressor, etc. Responsible for training new employees in the use and handling of materials. Trains employees to operate heavy and light motorized equipment such as; back hoe, motor grader, tandem truck, asphalt kettle, sand spreader, power broom, roller, and front end loader. Responsible for performing after hours calls and assists during emergencies and inclement weather operations such as; severe weather threats, accidents, tree removal, and other related emergencies. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Four (4) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis. Exposed to various weather conditions. Works in hazardous conditions due to working in roadways with traffic, noise and dust. Required to work overtime in emergencies and/or needed. Works stand-by duty as scheduled. Requires lifting, standing for sustained periods of time, standing and walking on rough terrain, stooping, bending, and physical stain. Must be able to assist in exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally and/or assist in to up to 50lbs of force frequently, and/or 20lbs of force constantly to move objects.
