Full Job Description
Functions as a Crew leader in the Sign Crew engaging in District work orders, sign repairs and installation. Replaces missing and damaged signs, erects new and repair old signs. Operates equipment such as Backhoe and Excavator. Operates and maintains various pieces of equipment such as a 5 yard and 8 yard dump truck, Forklift, and Bucket Truck. Serves as crew leader in the constructing of traffic control operations for work zones, to include flagging traffic for the safety of the crew and the public during various phases of roadway maintenance. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public and equipment. Assists with crew operations by entering daily work into HMMS, assigning daily tasks and crew assignments, assisting with the compilation of daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports and documents, and training subordinates on the operation of various maintenance equipment. Assists Crew Foreman as needed. Assists in on call operations for after hour emergencies, and Snow and Ice Plan and Hurricane Lane Reversal Plan. Performs other related duties as assigned. Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
